Personality & Traits
| General Overview | Medeiros is an extremely competent, battle-hardened commander with a keen mind and excellent sense of observation. However, he seems totally incapable of using those abilities for self-examination. | |
| Strengths & Weaknesses | Elias is a strong individual, though not without critical flaws. Physically, he's in great shape. He's also demonstrated exceptional aptitude for strategy and logistics, and he's able to organize resources and personnel in a way that best serves the interests of his ship's morale and efficiency. However, he performs his duties with a distinct level of detachment. Ever since the death of his fiancé at the hands of the Klingon Empire, he's been afraid to let his guard down emotionally, for fear of being hurt again. This unhealthy repression has been the subject of scrutiny among several counselors. |
|
| Ambitions | Initially, Elias simply wanted to retire with his lover to a quiet town on Earth. Since his death, he's focused solely on his career, aiming for the top position of commander in chief. | |
| Hobbies & Interests | Elias enjoys gymnastics and volley ball for physical exercise, and Strategema and Kal-toh for their mental challenge. Any game that tests patience and intelligence is something that will garner his attention. |
| Personal History | Elias José Medeiros was born in Kingsburg, California on January 18th, 2368. He graduated salutatorian of the Kingsburg High School class of 2386, where he earned the first state championship win for the Vikings varsity gymnastics team since 2311. He became something of a local hero to the townspeople. While he enjoyed the comfortable, slow-paced life he led, Medeiros longed for something more exciting. He enlisted in Starfleet Academy in July of 2386 against the wishes of his parents and was accepted for the fall semester. Medeiros took on a far bigger course load than most of his peers, taking two majors and a minor. Despite the daunting work volume, he still found time to captain the Academy's gymnastics team. During this time, he became romantically involved with J'Dan, a Klingon member of the team. Medeiros graduated in the top two percent of the Starfleet Academy Class of 2390. Despite his initial eagerness at his first assignment, he was disappointed to learn that he and J'Dan were assigned to different ships. After careful thought, the two mutually decided to end their relationship, promising that they would try again when the time was right. His first tour of duty aboard the Allegheny was eventful, to say the least. The ship saw frequent combat with the Orion Syndicate, accumulating significant damage over time. In 2393, the Allegheny was boarded by pirates, who attempted to seize control of the ship. While they were successful in rounding up most of the crew, Medeiros and a small contingent of engineers escaped into the Jeffries tubes. They instigated several systems failures that slowed the Allegheny down long enough for the U.S.S. Ariadne to rescue them. Medeiros earned his first Starfleet Citation for Conspicuous Gallantry and was promoted to assistant chief of security. Early in 2395, he was offered a promotion to full Lieutenant and a spot as Chief of Security aboard the Pathfinder. Upon learning that J'Dan was also assigned to the ship, he accepted the position, only to find that J'Dan was seeing someone else. Pathfinder's duties were light, limited to charting and cataloging various anomalies. Given the exorbitant amount of downtime, and the emotional burden of seeing his long-lost love with someone else, Medeiros buried himself in his work. He single-handedly tripled the efficiency of the security department over the next four years, earning him a promotion to Lieutenant Commander. His work on the Pathfinder garnered the attention of many new Captains. In 2402, Captain Cheryn R'Kar of the Meridian offered Medeiros the position of first officer. He accepted, advancing once again to the rank of Commander. His impeccable management skills turned Meridian into one of the finest-run ships in the Fleet, even rivaling the Enterprise. In late 2404, J'Dan joined the crew as Chief of Security. While initially cold and abrasive towards the man, Medeiros came around after J'Dan confessed that he took the assignment to be closer to him. The two soon picked up where they left off, resuming their liaison. The next year proved trying for their relationship. The Federation's cold war with the Klingons erupted into violent conflict. J'Dan struggled with his loyalties to his family in the Empire, while the Meridian served on the front lines with the Sixteenth Fleet. During the Battle of Donatu, the Meridian sustained significant damage. A plasma conduit on the bridge exploded, bringing down part of the structure and killing Captain R'Kar. Medeiros took command of the ship and managed to rally Meridian's battle group to repel the remaining Klingon forces. After the engagement, Medeiros and J'Dan earned battlefield promotions to Captain and Commander, respectively. During the Meridian's layover at Earth Station McKinley, the pair was given a brief respite, enjoying some downtime in Kingsburg with Medeiros' family. J'Dan proposed, much to his delight. Unfortunately, before they had time to celebrate, their new assignments came in: Medeiros would remain as Meridian's captain, but J'Dan was to be reassigned to the Aurora. Upon returning to duty, they swore to retire after their current assignments were over and plan a life together. Unfortunately, they would never get the chance. Early in 2407, the Aurora went missing near the Typhon Expanse after sending a general distress call. The starship Curie happened upon the ship, derelict and damaged by Klingon weapons fire. An away team discovered that the entire crew was killed in the attack. Devastated by the news, Medeiros completely withdrew himself emotionally, detaching himself from the rest of the crew and focusing on his duties to avoid feeling the pain of losing the love of his life. Despite lingering questions about his emotional and mental health, he led a successful offensive on the Otha system with the M.A.C.O. 8th Battalion and captured a Klingon outpost on the surface with minimal casualties. Medeiros has spent the last six years serving as Captain of the Meridian. He personally handled trade negotiations with the Barzan at the Azure Sector Trade Conference of 2411, which opened several new supply routes to Starfleet's efforts on the front lines of the Voth conflict in the Solanae Dyson Sphere. His continued success during and after the war with the Klingon Empire earned special consideration from Starfleet Command for a position in the Project Full Circle initiative. In May of 2413, Admiral Tuvok approached Medeiros and offered him command of the starship Neptune, helping to lead Starfleet's exploration of the Delta Quadrant. Having accepted the assignment, Medeiros now faces the darkest depths of his mind and the final frontier... |
